Alete, honey and Nektar Plus were the three main food sources during the initial week prior to the diet switch. In diet 1, food was supplemented by small amounts of pollen and banana. Cane sugar, corn syrup and agave syrup were the three main food sources starting from day one of the experiment. In diet 2, food was supplemented by small amounts of opuntia fruits.
