All values are means ± s.d.*Denotes the seal was a juvenile of <14 months. Diving metabolic rate (DMR; 1 min-1) is the mean oxygen consumption over a dive cycle. DMR(Kleiber) is the multiple of the basal metabolism predicted by Kleiber's allometric equation (Kleiber,1975).
