Table 3.

Total nonesterified fatty acids in plasma of the freshwater ocellate river stingray (Potamotrygon motoro), white-edge whip ray (Himantura signifer)in freshwater and half-strength seawater, the marine blue-spotted ribbontail stingray (Taeniura lymma), and the brownbanded bamboo shark (Chiloscyllium punctatum)

Type of waterNTotal NEFA (nmol ml-1)
P. motoro FW 105.7±20.2
H. signifer FW 122.8±40.9
H. signifer ½ SW 154.1±46.0
T. lymma SW 215.7±27.6
C. punctatum SW 171.6±32.0
Type of waterNTotal NEFA (nmol ml-1)
P. motoro FW 105.7±20.2
H. signifer FW 122.8±40.9
H. signifer ½ SW 154.1±46.0
T. lymma SW 215.7±27.6
C. punctatum SW 171.6±32.0

Values are mean ± s.e.m. FW, freshwater; SW, sea water; ½ SW,half-strength (15‰) seawater.

There were no significant differences between total nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) concentration in each species (one-way ANOVA, P>0.05)nor between H. signifer (FW) and H. signifer (½ SW)(Student's t-test, P>0.05).
