Burst duty is the percentage of the total cycle dedicated to the burst. Interburst count cycle-1 is the mean number of spikes outside of the burst that we recorded per cycle. Interburst burst-1 amp. is the ratio of the mean maximum amplitude of the interburst activity over the maximum amplitude of the burst (see Materials and methods for further explanation). The means for the molting and intermolt larvae were not significantly different for any of the variables tested (P>0.05,unpaired t-test).
