Covariation between wrist bone morphology and maximal range of motion during ulnar deviation and supination in extant nonhuman primate taxa
Summary: Variations in maximal range of motion during nonhuman primate ulnar deviation and supination can be linked to differences in locomotor behaviour, but correlations with shape require analysis on a larger dataset.
Activation of respiratory-related bursting in an isolated medullary section from adult bullfrogs
Summary: We developed a reduced rhythmic preparation from adult bullfrogs that may lead to studies of the cellular mechanisms of respiratory rhythm generation and episode pattern formation in anuran amphibians.
First evidence of sex-specific responses to chemical cues in tardigrade mate searching behaviour
Evidence of pre-mating Darwinian sex roles in tardigrades despite limited sexual dimorphism, highlighting the value of studying both sexes and non-model systems in chemical communication research.
‘Phototaxis’ in the absence of light? Locomotory patterns in unionid mussels
Summary: Freshwater mussels of the order Unionida moved towards a light source after the light was switched off, suggesting a trade-off between moving towards brighter, more productive waters and moving in the dark to mitigate the predation risk.

Mapping Neuromodulator expression in Octopus vulgaris – a Travelling Fellowship story
To develop her understanding of neural mapping, Federica Pizzulli, a PhD student from the Biology and Evolution of Marine Organisms Department of the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn in Naples, used a Travelling Fellowship from Journal of Experimental Biology to visit the Seuntjens lab at KU Leuven, Belgium – the first lab to adapt in-situ Hybridization Chain Reaction (HCR) to Octopus vulgaris.
